A new drywall installation is only as good as the attention given to every phase: how the sheets are hung, how the joints are taped, how many coats of compound are applied, and how the final finish is sanded. Skip a step or rush any phase, and you will see the consequences every time the light hits the wall at a low angle. At JCT Drywall, we do not skip steps.

We handle new drywall installation for residential and commercial projects throughout Clearwater and Pinellas County. That includes new home construction, room additions, garage conversions to living space, and any new build that needs a quality drywall finish before paint. We work directly with homeowners, contractors, and builders.

The installation process starts with hanging the correct board for the application. Standard half-inch drywall for most walls and ceilings. Five-eighths inch for fire-rated assemblies or extra sound control. Moisture-resistant greenboard or cement board in bathrooms and kitchens where humidity is a factor. Choosing the wrong board is a mistake that costs money to fix later — we get it right on the first pass.

After hanging comes taping, which is where a lot of budget drywall contractors cut corners. Proper taping means embedding paper tape in compound at every seam and corner, followed by multiple skim coats with full dry time between each coat. We finish to a Level 4 or Level 5 finish depending on what the final paint application requires. Builders who have worked with us know our seams will not crack or telegraph through the finished paint.

We serve new construction projects across Clearwater, Largo, St. Petersburg, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Safety Harbor, Tarpon Springs, and surrounding Pinellas County communities. We work with your general contractor timeline and communicate clearly on schedule so we are never the reason a project runs late.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of drywall should I use in my bathroom?

For bathrooms, we typically use moisture-resistant drywall (greenboard) in areas that see humidity but not direct water contact. For shower and tub surrounds where tile will be applied, cement board is the correct substrate. We specify the right material for each area so you are protected long-term.

What finish level do I need?

Most residential paint applications need a Level 4 finish. If you are applying flat or eggshell paint in a space with harsh side lighting — like a living room with large windows — a Level 5 skim coat finish is worth the investment. We discuss this with you during the estimate.

Do you work with general contractors?

Yes. We work with GCs across Pinellas County on a regular basis. We communicate clearly on schedule requirements, show up as committed, and deliver a finish quality that makes the overall build look good. References available on request.

How long does drywall installation take?

It depends on the square footage and the number of coats required. A typical room addition can be hung in a day and finished over three to four days once drying time is factored in. Larger projects are estimated with a detailed timeline at the quote stage.
